Centre for American Studies

Description

The University of Leicester provides a comprehensive American Studies program that incorporates the expertise of staff from various departments including English, History, Politics and International Relations, and History of Art and Film.

The program offers a wide range of knowledge and research opportunities spanning American history, literature, politics, and film, and has been recognized as one of the top 10 American Studies providers by The Complete University Guide 2019.

The Centre, established in 1997, encourages students to "declare their independence," both in the gaining and exercise of independence, a significant theme in American history, literature, politics and culture, as well as in breaking away from traditional academic methodologies. The program adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to develop a multifaceted perspective on the subject. The Centre is part of the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities at the University of Leicester.
