Centre for Research on Education and Social Justice (CRESJ)
Description
The Centre for Research on Education and Social Justice undertakes multi-method research that explores social justice in education.
The Centre takes a social perspective on educational phenomena, seeking to examine critically the sources, nature and impacts of social injustices locally and globally. In addition, it is committed to making visible, and giving voice to, underrepresented groups.
The Centre’s research focuses on the pursuit of equality, inclusion and access to education for all, particularly addressing social injustices in terms of class, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, language and culture. Its work uses multiple theoretical frameworks and methods in a wide range of formal and non-formal educational contexts - including, but not limited to, schools, universities and communities.
Researchers in the Centre work with international colleagues on projects focusing on a wide range of topics, including: citizenship, value and activism; gender and sexuality; inequalities and higher education; literacy, literature and creativity; pedagogical approaches to social justice; race, faith and identity; and social class and mobility.
