African Languages
Description
With about 2000 languages and vibrant, multilingual communities, Africa is an invigorating area for research on linguistic structures and language policy.
The African Languages cluster's research on African languages documents, describes, and analyses the linguistic structures of African languages, especially those within the Bantu branch of the Niger-Congo family. Members study the nature of multilingualism is various contexts across the continent, with a particular focus on differing manifestations of language practices and policies in multilingual classrooms. The cluster's research also tackles the decolonisation of linguistics and higher education as well as anti-racist pedagogy.
