Classical German Philosophy Cluster

Description

The Classical German Philosophy Cluster covers a major area of research and teaching at Essex. Many of the academic staff are experts on Kant and the post-Kantian tradition including, Schelling and Hegel, as well as later nineteenth-century philosophers, such as Marx, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche.

Members of the Classical Germany Philosophy research cluster have published a variety of work on the reception of German and transcendental Idealism by critical theorists, on Hegel and the relationship between aesthetics and politics and on Kierkegaard’s critique of Hegel’s account of pure thought and his reading of the place of Socrates in the history of philosophy.
