Centre of Canadian Studies

Description

The Centre of Canadian Studies is celebrating over 40 years of research at the University of Edinburgh. It is the longest running centre on this subject outside Canada. Through those years, it has established itself as the leading centre for research on Canada and Quebec in the UK.

The centre provides a forum for researchers from across the University. However, its research focus lies primarily in the social sciences, in politics and international relations, sociology, social anthropology and social policy. It enjoys excellent relations with the Canadian High Commission and the Délégation Générale du Québec.

The Centre is active among networks of people interested in the study of Canada and Quebec in the UK, such as:

  • British Association for Canadian Studies
  • Centre for Quebec and French Canadian Studies

However, the study of Canada and Quebec features more generally in disciplinary networks in the UK in which Centre members are active, such as:

  • Centre on Constitutional Change
  • Territorial Politics Group, Political Studies Association

and in Canada:

  • Canadian Political Science Association
  • Canadian Sociology Association
