Transoceanic Art Research Consortium (TARC)

Description

The Transoceanic Art Research Consortium (TARC) aims to foster dialogues and collaborations amongst scholars specialising in materials from disparate parts of the world, examining how art objects and artistic traditions have travelled across oceans, linking people from far-flung islands and continents over time.

Members foreground the roles of art and material culture objects in processes of translation and transculturation, in ways that are aesthetic, symbolic, and technological. Bringing together academic staff, curators, and postgraduate students from diverse disciplines, and fields of geographical and chronological specialisation that are often not in dialogue, they hope to break down scholarly barriers and to spur new and unexpected conversations and questions. The Consortium’s emphasis is on developing innovative collaborative projects that feature international and transregional perspectives.
