International Textile Research Centre
Description
The International Textile Research Centre (ITRC) builds on the work of The Anglo-Japanese Textile Research Centre (AJTRC) which was established at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in 2004 to develop networks within and between the UK and Japan. These networks embraced contemporary textile practice, educational establishments, funding organisations and exhibition venues in the two countries. As projects have developed, networks and connections have extended beyond the UK and Japan to those countries where textile practice occupies a corresponding position.
In 2014 UCA decided that the research outcomes and interest of the AJTRC now encompass many different cultures and approaches and the ITRC was established to incorporate both the AJTRC and other textile networks and centres within UCA.
The International Textile Research Centre Aims:
- To ensure that methods of practice and material understanding are placed at the centre of critical debate, promoting national and international dissemination of contemporary textile practice.
- To facilitate the involvement in the activities of the Institute by artists and academics, both from within and from outside UCA, in order to create international networks at the highest level of practice.
- To facilitate links internally and externally with those whose research and professional practice is concerned with textiles.
- To develop collaborative relationships with major cultural institutions, networks, galleries and museums around the world.
- To develop international collaborative opportunities between practitioners and HEI’s
