The Cluster brings together researchers working on the twentieth century and whose musicological roots collectively extend back to the nineteenth century, giving the Cambridge team a uniquely wide-angle view of historical transformation in Russia, France and Spain particularly.

Work on jazz, modernist and traditional musics alike overlays chronological sweep with significant generic depth.
