London Centre for Public History and Heritage (LCPH)

Description

The London Centre for Public History (LCPH) was established at Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2016 to create a space for the public exploration of the past and to promote greater communication and collaboration between public historians across the UK and beyond, whether they work in universities or more public-facing institutions or are unaffiliated. The LCPH emerged from Royal Holloway’s MA in Public History, which was the brainchild of the late Justin Champion, and it is particularly keen to support and collaborate with early career public historians. Its members remain closely linked to the MA and to the Historians for History blog website.

Through the MA in Public History and the external partnerships fostered by its members, the London Centre for Public History enjoys close relations with Hampton Court Palace, the Black Cultural Archives, the National Army Museum, Egham Museum and Surrey History Centre.

The Centre also organises an annual early career workshop and holds talks and roundtables on key debates and topics in public history and heritage.
