Centre for Practical Philosophy, Theology and Religion
Description
The Centre for Practical Philosophy, Theology and Religion (CPPTR) brings together several lively research areas in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences:
- Philosophy of Religion
- Theology and Action Research
- Practical Theology
- Catholic Studies
- Pentecostal Studies
- Practical Philosophy
- Religion and Practice
The centre's core commitments prioritise both the practical meaningfulness of Philosophy, Theology and Religion for people, and the need for members to understand better the practical realities of human living so as to develop thought and knowledge in respective fields of interest.
The centre's combined work clusters around a number of key themes:
Health, well-being and wholeness, understood in spiritual, religious, and moral terms. This concern embraces work around the environment and the non-human world, as well as diverse questions of embodied human living such as faith, learning, relationships and development
Social justice questions and inclusivity, explored through perspectives of practical philosophy, and religious practice. Particular focus is given questions of race, gender and of LGBT issues
Faith and Society, a broad overarching theme which is addressed by all the centre's work in so far as it takes public engagement and impact activity to be an essential component of its research.
