Centre For Eighteenth-Century Studies

Description

The Centre for Eighteenth-Century Studies is an interdisciplinary initiative based in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It draws together research expertise across the Faculty in the long eighteenth century in the disciplines of English, History, Languages, Literatures, Geography, Performing Arts and Music.

The Centre regularly hosts seminars, lectures and special events on themes relating to eighteenth-century life.

Although the greatest concentration of members engages in research relating to England or Ireland, the Centre also has scholars working on aspects of East European, French, Indian, Mexican, Spanish and North and South American culture during the long eighteenth century. With an international board of advisers, the Centre for Eighteenth-Century Studies has also developed links in Ireland and the United Kingdom and continues to form further contacts with similar centres worldwide. CECS is a member of the international Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI).
