Formal Linguistics Research Group

Description

The research of the Formal Linguistics Research Group focuses on linguistic knowledge as a fundamental human cognitive capacity.

Lately members have been thinking about topics including Condition C reconstruction, the encoding of perspectival meaning, the logic of number systems, and syntactic variation across languages, employing data from a diverse range of languages as well as experimental methods. They are happy to receive research proposals in the areas of syntax, formal semantics, morphology and phonology.

The Group calendar of events includes reading groups, training workshops, informal ling-lunches, an invited seminar series, London Semantics Day, and the annual Randolph Quirk Fellowship workshop series and public lecture. The Group is a member of the London Semantics Network, and also teach graduate courses as part of the cross-university initiative Advanced Core Training in Linguistics.
