Centre of the Built Environment

Description

The Centre of the Built Environment encompasses a wide range of research areas. These range from analysis of commercial property, housing and mortgage markets to the development of district heat networks from construction management and development to urban planning and sustainability.

It covers a range of subject areas within the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment including Construction Management,Civil Engineering, and Property Management and Development. Research within the Centre links to the University Research Theme of Sustainable Futures.

Researchers within the Centre work with a range of government bodies at home and abroad and their research collaborations extend globally. At a local level the Centre's research has helped improved the quality of life of Nottingham residents and has influenced government policy at local, national and international levels. The Centre's research links academics with policymakers and industry partners providing research-informed solutions to real world problems.

As indicated above the research Centre is built upon a number of different subject areas in the School of Architecture Design and Built Environment at NTU. This has provided an opportunity to support specific areas of research focus while at the same time underpinning the development of interdisciplinary research.

The key areas of interest and expertise are:

  • sustainable energy systems;
  • housing economics;
  • fuel poverty and climate change;
  • mortgage markets, behavioural finance, and real estate finance;
  • commercial real estate analysis and investment;
  • construction and facilities management;
  • energy and sustainability;
  • environmental citizenship;
  • lean project management;
  • construction supply chains and BIM implementation.
