Description
The Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies was established by the University of Wales in 1985 as a dedicated research centre conducting team-based projects on the languages, literatures, culture and history of Wales and the other Celtic countries.
It is located in Aberystwyth, adjacent to the National Library of Wales, which is an internationally-renowned copyright library with excellent research facilities.
Its work is currently focused on the following areas of specialism:
- Early Celtic Languages
- Enlightenment and Romanticism in Wales and Europe
- Medieval Welsh Literature
- Welsh and British Name Studies
- Welsh Lexicography
- Contemporary Sociolinguistics and Language Policy and Planning in Minoritized Languages
- Literary Translation
The Centre also has staff members working in the Visual Arts, Archaeology, Hagiography, Breton Literature, Women’s Writing and Travel Writing.
