Description
The Digital Cultures Studio in Newcastle University's Culture Lab is a centre for creative digital practice. It is a research group of artists, designers, musicians and performers who make work which is relevant, experimental and engaged with contemporary technology. Areas of interest include:
- Media Art and Curation
- Performance
- Design Research
- Museums, Heritage and Collections
- Film and Moving Image
- Sound Art
- Maker Culture
- Digital Humanities
The Digital Cultures Studio's practice-based approach to research, teaching and knowledge exchange emphasizes cultural experimentation, public presentation and participation, and the transformation of the academic disciplines – in particular through creating interactive artefacts and exploratory design practices, which interrogate the role of the digital in relation to traditional materialities and practices. The Digital Cultures Studio collaborates within and outside the university from this standpoint and welcomes conversations about future collaborative research. It has particular expertise in creative computing, building networked, technological devices, live electronic performance, curating creative technological artefacts and visualisation.
