Llafur: The Welsh People's History Society
Description
Llafur brings together people from all walks of life with a common interest in Welsh people’s history. It organises a wide range of events looking at aspects of Welsh history and publish the journal Llafur. Llafur believes that history does not just inform people of the past, but that it can also illuminate the understanding of the present, and to help shape the future. That’s why many Llafur events consider issues that, even though rooted in the past, have relevance for lives today. The journal publishes articles on all aspects of the history of the Welsh people. The society is proud of its record in modern labour history and of being the principal journal in which work in women’s history has been published in Wales. However, Llafur is always keen to extend its boundaries into new periods and new approaches. Llafur was established in 1970, and perhaps it is a sign of its maturity (and also of the contribution that it has made, and is continuing to make) that people are now undertaking historical studies of the society itself. As well as still aspiring to help bring change through understanding history, it is a place for enjoyment and sharing as well as learning.
